Our Roman Blinds are made up using a roman Blind Tape which securely holds the fibreglass rod used to create each fold. This is machine stitched with a single line of stitching across the blind adding stability and ensuring a long lasting finish. The bottom is weighted with an aluminium bottom bar. When using a Blackout Lining this stitching can show tiny ‘pin holes’ of light.
IMPORTANT – Always use a metal tape to take your measurements rather than a fabric or plastic tape, which may stretch and result in inaccurate measurements.
It will be necessary to fit the blind outside the recess if:
To be sure of the best possible fit, take time to measure your window carefully.
Measure the width of your window recess from wall to wall. Take measurements at three different points just in case your window is not square and write down the smallest measurement. This measurement is called ‘Inside Recess’ (See fig. 1). A small deduction (1.5cm) for clearance will be taken off the width by us from your supplied measurements to ensure your blind can operate smoothly and fits within the recess.
Measure the height of your window recess from top to sill. Take measurements at three different points just in case your window is not square and write down the smallest measurement.
IMPORTANT – It’s important that you carefully measure your windows to ensure your roman blinds fit correctly. If you are in any doubt, please be sure to check again. By supplying these measurements you take full responsibility for the finished size of your roman blinds.
To be sure of the best possible fit, take time to measure your window carefully.
Measure the width that you would like your roman blind. This measurement is called ‘Outside Recess’ (See fig. 2). We suggest that the blind extends approx. 10cm at either side and above and below the recess.
Measure the length that you would like your roman blind.
Your blind will be made to your given sizes.
IMPORTANT – It’s important that you carefully measure your windows to ensure your roman blinds fit correctly. If you are in any doubt, please be sure to check again. By supplying these measurements you take full responsibility for the finished size of your roman blinds.
IMPORTANT – Always use a metal tape to take your measurements rather than a fabric or plastic tape, which may stretch and result in inaccurate measurements.
To be sure of the best possible fit, take time to measure carefully. It is important that you measure the width of the curtain rail or pole, not the window itself. The curtain rail or pole should be positioned 15cm above the window and extend 15cm – 20cm either side so that the curtains can be stacked back off the window.
Measure the total width of the rail or pole (excluding finials). Don’t forget to account for overlap – this is an additional measurement, normally 2.5cm, which allows the hanging curtains to overlap in the middle when they are closed.
If you have a rail with a centre overlap, measure the total width of the rail excluding finials, then measure the overlap and add the two measurements together.
Before measuring the drop, decide whether you want your curtains to fit above the sill, below the sill, or to the floor. We suggest that:
Take your measurements from 3 different points along the track or pole, as sills and floors are rarely completely level, and use the shortest measurement so that the
curtains don’t drag on the floor or the sill.
For curtain rails measure from the top of the rail to where you want the curtain to finish.
MEASURING THE DROP
For curtain poles measure from the top of the eye (the small metal ring underneath the curtain rings) to where you want the curtain to finish. This will prevent your curtain pole or rings from being obscured by the curtains.
Please note: our pinch pleat curtains are made with buckram Heading and are designed to hang on a Pole, although some customers do hang them on a rail.
This heading is only suitable for curtain poles up to35mm in diameter. Measure from the top edge of your pole, to where you want the curtains to finish. And add on 2.5cm to allow for the heading above the pole.
We strongly recommend your track/metropole is purchased and installed to get accurate measurements and we require the number of gliders to process an order. The number of gliders for each curtain in the pair must be equal. For example 40 gliders in total, 20 gliders in each curtain. Please follow instructions for measuring in occurrence with the track/metropole purchased as these can differ.
IMPORTANT – It’s important that you carefully measure your rail or pole to ensure your curtains fit correctly. If you are in any doubt, please be sure to check again. By supplying these measurements you take full responsibility for the finished size of your curtains.
Premier Track
Your blind will be delivered ready to hang, complete with brackets with instructions included.
Our Premier Track works in similar way to a roller blind track, with concealed Cord Drums which ensures cords pull up straight and at equal speeds making your blind look neat and straight.
Depending on the measurements of your blind this will be supplied with a Fast Lift 1:1 or Heavy Lift 1:4 Control Unit.
The blind is supplied with strong metal chain controls available in Chrome or Brass (rather than plastic) and will always be supplied as a continuous chain which is compliant with current British legislation.
Pencil Pleat
Our standard Pencil Pleat Heading is 3″ deep and can be hung on a track or a pole.
Deep Pencil Pleat
The Deep Pencil Pleat Heading measures just under 6″ and is ideal for longer curtains.
Double and Triple Pinch Pleat
The Pinch Pleat Headings give a lovely traditional look, and are 5″ deep, making them ideal for all lengths of curtains. Our Pinch Pleat Curtains are stitched onto a stiff Buckram Heading. They look better on a pole, but many customers do hang them on a track.
Eyelet 40MM
Our Eyelet Heading is ideal for a clean, modern look and will fit poles up to a maximum of 35mm. We offer a range of Eyelet colours so that you can match to your pole or existing fittings. Please get in touch if you require a larger Eyelet Heading.
Wave 80MM
Our Wave Heading is ideal for a bay window or other large space. Please note; We will require the number of gliders on your wave track/metropole. The number of gliders for each curtain in the pair must be equal. For example 40 gliders in total, 20 gliders in each curtain. Please provide this in your Special Instructions or we will be in touch once the order has been received.
For any other headings please email info@housedecorltd.co.uk, call 01274 588079 or start a LiveChat.
Hand Sewn Hems
Some fabrics cannot be hemmed using a standard blind stitch sewing machine.
The hems on these fabrics need to be stitched by hand to leave less marks on the finished curtain.
Fabrics requiring Hand Stitched Hems are usually silks or silky finishes, embellished (Eg: embroidered or sequinned designs), linens, chenilles or velvets.

The New legislation came into effect at the end of February 2014 and has been brought into effect to stop the risk of strangulation of children when caught on Blind / Curtain Cords / chains.
How do we make our Roman Blinds compliant?
The bottom of the chain/cord loop must be 60cm from the floor for Roman Blinds.
The bottom of the chain/cord loop must be 150m from the floor for Venetian Blinds.
We therefore need to ask the ‘Fixing / Installation’ height of the blind for all orders and manufacture the chain length accordingly.
With our latest Control Units (1:1 Fast Lift & 1:4 Heavy Lift) the bottom of the chain no longer needs to be fixed to the wall. If approx 7kg of pressure if applied to the chain it will simply detach from the track to remove any possible choking hazard.
Blind Chain Safety Boxes are still available to purchase separately for aesthetic purposes or to use with an older Control Unit. It has been fully tested to BS EN 16434 for UV, heat, cold & impact resistance.
Where the cords, on the blind, are spaced longer than 20cm apart, a Breakaway device must be fitted.
We use a new cord stopper Breakaway. It has been fully tested to BS EN 16434 for UV, heat, cold & impact resistance. The main cord is released through the device when 6kgs is applied. DO NOT knot the cord.
You can order extra fabric, to match your curtains / roman blind, to make your own accessories, or recover a chair. This will be supplied from the same piece as the fabric used for your curtains / roman blind ensuring an exact colour / pattern match.
If you’d like to place an order for different fabrics to co-ordinate with your curtains / roman blinds, please select these after adding your Tailor Made Items to your basket.
